What Is GDPR?<\/h2>

GDPR is the widely-used acronym for the \u201cGeneral Data Protection Regulation\u201d, a set of legislative norms released with the purpose of protecting user data privacy in the European Union (EU). In short, everyone. If you run a business in the EU, you are without doubt affected by GDPR.<\/p>

GDPR<\/a>\u00a0stands for the General Data Protection Regulation. GDPR came into effect on 25th May 2018 as the new European Union Regulation, replacing the Data Protection Directive (DPD) and The UK Data Protection Act 1998.<\/p>

After many years of debate it was approved by the EU Parliament on April 14th 2016 and involves the protection of personal data and the rights of individuals. Its main aim is to ease the flow of personal data and increase privacy and rights for EU residents across all member states.<\/p><\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t

The first and most important thing to realize is that the EU concept of \u201cpersonal data\u201d is much, much broader than the U.S. concept of \u201cPII\u201d. Under EU law, personal data means any information relating to an identified or identifiable natural person (\u201cdata subject\u201d); an identifiable natural person is one who can be identified, directly or indirectly, in particular by reference to an identifier such as a name, an identification number, location data, an online identifier or to one or more factors specific to the physical, physiological, genetic, mental, economic, cultural or social identity of that natural person. It doesn\u2019t have to be confidential or sensitive to qualify as personal data.<\/p><\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t
